Though just 25 minutes by road north from Dubai airport and city centre, the picturesque little Emirate of Ajman on the coastline of the UAE presents a totally contrasted setting. The peaceful coastline here is edged by uncrowded white beaches, and the area is a natural gateway to the undiscovered Northern and Eastern Emirates. Only minutes away is Sharjah, designated by UNESCO as cultural capital of the Arab world.
Quiet little Ras Al Khaimah, to the north of Dubai, is the garden of the Emirates, home of dairy cattle and market gardening, as well as being dotted with interesting forts, old villages, watch towers and coconut groves. Inland rise rugged mountains, while the Gulf coastline dazzles the eyes with its shimmering beaches and crystal-clear blue seas. |
