San Francisco
California’s Golden Gateway. The 18th century Spanish mission post that has
transformed itself beyond recognition into today’s ‘City by the Bay’ - an
effervescently young-at-heart and cosmopolitan symbol of the New World. A place
of fun and freedom, with a sunlit, ready-made film-set location amid 40 rolling
hills that tumble spectacularly down to the Pacific waters of blue San Francisco
Bay.
The Monterey Coast
One of the most appealing settings in which to enjoy a stopover on the
exhilarating journey along California’s Pacific coast is the beautiful Monterey
Peninsula, 2.5 hours’ drive from San Francisco and 5 from Los Angeles. This is
the setting of famous Seventeen Mile Drive, past Pebble Beach Championship Golf
Course and colonies of elephant seals and sea otters.
Los Angeles
BIG, BRASH, bizarre, bemusing - and quite unforgettable! This is ‘L.A.’. -
450 square miles of pace-setting ‘pizzazz’, towering skylines and legendary
showbiz settings like Hollywood and Beverly Hills. A city that claims the title
of ‘ the entertainment capital of the world’, home past and present to some of
the USA’s richest and most famous names from the silver screen.
San Diego & Santa Barbara
Just two hours’ coastal drive south from Los Angeles and 20 miles from the
Mexico border, sun-drenched San Diego is both a sparkling modern city and an
attractive holiday resort. Here you’ll find a perfect family resort, with a
temperate year-round climate, a rugged 70-mile Pacific shoreline of surf-swept
beaches and outstanding watersports, many parks and smart shops, a colourful
harbour, and the renowned San Diego Zoo and Sea World.
Palm Springs
A world where relaxation is the order of the day - and the sun shines on
average 350 days a year. Here, between the Mojave Desert and the high San
Jacinto mountains, is an exclusive yet informal valley oasis renowned as a haven
for sun-seekers and celebrities since the 1930s. Superb golf courses (there are
more than 80!), soothing spas and over 25,000 swimming pools are Palm Springs’
speciality. |
